10.04.12  |  avtor: Gregor Anderluh

Slovensko biokemijsko društvo organizira 110. društveno predavanje. Predavala bo dr. Hanna Wacklin (European Spallation Source ESS AB, Lund, Sweden). Predavanje z naslovom "Looking inside membranes: neutron reflection experiments on proteins and peptides" bo v Veliki predavalnici Kemijskega inštituta v Ljubljani, v petek, 13. 4. 2012 ob 13.00.

Povzetek predavanja:

One of the current challenges in studying biophysical phenonema in biomembranes is how to relate protein or peptide activity or selectivity to the to the detailed structure and composition of what are often very complex molecular assemblies in situ, as a function of time.

In this talk I will explore the recent applications of using neutron reflectometry to elucidate different aspects of membrane-protein interactions, including peptide binding, pore formation and enzymatic hydrolysis. Selected examples from recent work on therapeutic plant peptides, a spingomyelin-specific toxin and phospholipase enzymes will be used to highlight current and future challenges in state-of-the art studies of multi-component biological systems.
